Background
z-mode is a contemporary ladieswear fashion label created by Lithuanian born Victoria Rangayah. Victoria's debut SS11 collection, launched during London Fashion Week, focuses on dresses and contemporary tailoring with an ethical fashion bias. z-mode's first showcasing of shoelace re-cycling was well received and Victoria strives to introduce more aspects of sustainable fashion into her future designs.
Victoria spent five years in South Africa where she graduated from the London School of Fashion in 2006. After graduating she worked as a womenswear denim designer for a manufacturing company.
Having worked in a huge retail environment, Victoria wanted to create something of her very own.
Through Victoria's passion for feminine design and a strong desire for success z-mode was born.
Victoria's designs were selected for exhibition in Museum Africa, Johannesburg and her 'shoelace dress' was selected and showcased in 'Clothes Show Live - Fashion Theatre' 2010. In addition Victoria has understandably become the darling of many fashion magazines and bloggers.
Inspiration
"She is NOT Alice" is the title of Victoria's collection.
Contrast and balance are the key factors in her design. Tailoring details are mixed with soft silks to create an unusual harmony.
"Instead of purely romantic ruffles, I use simple lines, geometric shapes and loose silhouettes to create a very feminine look. I use unexpected trims such as shoe-laces to enhance the contrast and give this collection a slight, wonderland feel.
I wanted to create a character with an Alice feel, but yet in keeping with her own identity.
Something along the lines of twin sisters. They are so similar but yet have their own identity and personality. Itʼs about celebrating the similarities and differences between them.
About finding a perfect balance, keeping in mind simplicity, attention to detail and minimalism.
Like the looking glass through which Alice steps, a z-mode garment takes the wearer into a world where all is not what it seems. Small touches in the garmentʼs construction reward a closer look and subvert first impressions. After all, every woman needs a looking glass.
Is that Alice... ?
The decision is yours.
How does it make you feel?
Irresistibly feminine.
